The Bones of Jesus
Think About It! Director John Cameron has produced a film that reveals the grave of Jesus Christ. It is based on the discovery of an old grave with the name Jesus, son of Joseph inscribed on the sepulcher. Apparently, the bones are still in the sepulcher, which leads skeptics to point out there was no bodily resurrection or ascension of Jesus the Christ from the grave. They say at best perhaps it was a spiritual resurrection and ascension. Again the old question arises, ARE YOU A PERSON OF FAITH OR A PERSON OF REASON? This week I have listened to a number of prestigious theologians speak on this subject and to their shame they have all argued from points of scientific logic rather than from biblical support. Yes, I realize that Bible support is based on faith that the Bible is God's Words and that one accepts them as real truth over every thing else. Wait just a minute - isn't there a faith being asked of the public to believe the bones found are Jesus' bones as men of science and rationalism are claiming. I get it - I am suppose to take their word over God's Word!
What does God's Word say on the subject?
Jesus' Resurrection from the grave: Physical not Spiritual.
"Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have" (Lk:24:39). Note: You can not see a spirit.
Jesus' Ascension into heaven: Physical not Spiritual.
"And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven" (Acts 1:9-11). Note: They saw him ascend. You can not see a spirit.
Jesus' Appearances: Physical not Spiritual
"For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time" (1 Corinthians 15:3-8). Note: He was seen by many. You can not see a spirit.
Jesus' Return: Physical not Spiritual
"Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him.
Even so, Amen" (Revelations 1:7). Note: Every eye shall see him. You can not see a spirit.
Therefore the present claim that the bones of Jesus Christ are still in the grave and that he did not arise from the grave bodily and that perhaps it was a spiritual resurrection and ascension rather than a physical one are no less than more ridiculous attempts to smear the deity of Jesus Christ the Son of God by those from whom the truth has been hidden.
"But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of
them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious
gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine
unto them" (2 Corinthians 4:3-4).
Believers, let us remember the advice given to Brother Timothy:
"O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust,
avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of
science falsely so called" (1 Timothy 6:20).
