The Bible

By Caswell A. Reeves

The BIBLE is the Word of God.  It is the greatest and most popular piece of literature in the world; It is important, because it is alive, sinking into and provoking the very depths of a man's conscience. Hebrews 4:12.

The Bible is a book that reveals all God wants man to know; And while some have foolishly discounted the Bible as a book of fables, others have found the power and presence of God. James 4:7-8.

The following are some things the Bible teaches.

Regarding the Scripture:  that it did not come "by the will of man:  but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost:" 2 Peter 1:21.  Also, that "all scripture is given by inspiration of God."  And is "... profitable..." unto man. 2 Timothy 3:16-17.  Thus, the Bible is a God authored, infallible, profitable book.  And it will remain that way "For ever." Psalm 119:89.  It is revealed as you believe, "...from faith to faith." Romans 1:11.

Regarding God:  that He always was; "...even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God." Psalm 90:2.  That He is the only God and all other gods are idols. Psalm 96:5.  That He is a jealous and merciful God, "...visiting the iniquities of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate [Him]; And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love [Him], and keep [His] commandments." Exodus 20:5-6.  And that His love for man was demonstrated by the death of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Romans 5:8.

Regarding Mankind:  "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Genesis 1:27.  The first man sinned. Genesis 2:17 and 3:6.  As a result of one man’s sin, all men are sinners and all must die. Romans 5:12.  For this reason God sent His Son to save man.  "That as sin reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 5:21.

Regarding Man’s three philosophical questions:

1.      - Where did we come from? (Genesis 1:27).

2.      - What are we doing here? (Revelation 4:11), and

3.      - Where are we going? (John 3:18).

Regarding Creation vs. Evolution:  "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." Genesis 1:1.  "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." Hebrews 11:3.  And "...keep that which is commited to thy trust, avoid profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called." 1 Timothy 6:20.

Finally the greatest revelation in the Bible is the Salvation God has provided for man.  This Salvation is in His Son; "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life." 1 John 5:11-12.  Will you believe the Bible and accept Christ as your Savior.  If you believe, ask Him to Save You! Romans 10:13.
