Seminary News - February 28, 2010

Praise the Lord for length of days. That is exactly what we experienced as we saw two days worth of work accomplished in one day. The efforts in the last week have been to finish the upstairs and the library, and for the most part that was accomplished. Now all that is left is for the upstairs to be filled with furniture and decorated. The library has its curtains up and its bookshelves up. We need only to fill the shelves with books and place a few room decorations. The carpet is down in the upstairs foyer with a runner going down a very beautiful refurbished set of steps. There is some minor work, but necessary work in the upstairs bathroom that yet needs to be finished for a functional bathroom.

Downstairs the focus was on the library and the prophet's chamber. If you recall the prophet's chamber was completely gutted, walls were relocated, new bath and kitchen/dining area relocated and all the walls and ceilings were newly plastered. The effort this week was to have all the trim and doors installed and painted before carpeting was installed on Friday. Praise the Lord as things went as planned and even better than we had hoped. As I write there are still some electrical and plumbing work and a lot of work yet to do in the kitchen. As well, we would like to paint the parlor and dining room; however, it is not necessary for being ready for our seminary module of March 8th with Dr. Thomas Strouse from the Bible Baptist Theological Seminary in Cromwell, CT., and who is dean-advisory of our seminary.

We thank all of you for your prayers and ask that you continue to lift us up in prayer for good use of time, labor and needed finances to accomplish this task by our March module class. We have one week left to finish our work.

Seminary News:  February 21, 2010

It was a very busy week of painting walls and trim, trying to get the upstairs finished and ready for decorating. This job fell to the ladies, and what a good job they did. Also, all the new light fixtures were installed upstairs. The ceramic flooring was installed in the bathroom of the prophet's chamber. (See pictures in this week's Heritage Herald) Next week we are hoping to paint the prophet's chamber.  Continue to lift us up in pray for good use of time, labor and needed finances to accomplish this task by our March module class.

Seminary News:  February 14, 2010

This week work was concentrated on the Prophet's Chamber with work being done on electric, plumbing and walls. The ladies have begun priming the walls in the bedrooms upstairs, preparing them for painting. This was also a week of gathering needed materials for various aspects of the construction side of the project.

Continue to lift us up in prayer for good use of time, labor and needed finances to accomplish this task by our March module class.

Summary of Tools for Biblical Languages

Dr. Thomas M. Strouse, Professor

      HBTS Module Class

                                           March 8-12, 2010, Endicott, NY

This course is designed to expose the seminarian to the tools available for the initial employment of the biblical languages of Hebrew and Greek for exegesis.  The seminarian will learn how to write and pronounce the Hebrew consonants and vowels and Greek letters.  The professor will provide basic theological vocabulary from each language for the benefit of the seminarian.  The professor will summarize basic grammar, and demonstrate the employment of interlinear texts for meaningful word studies and text exegesis.  The seminarian will actually participate in exegesis from interlinear texts on both OT and NT passages.  Finally, the seminarian will be exposed to various software helps available.  -Dr. T.M. Strouse

We appreciate Dr. Strouse, our Dean-Advisory, for giving us a preview description of this new course. We are excited about hosting this course in March. Dr. Strouse also believes that with the help of interlinear handouts, men and women will be able to appreciate and enjoy this course. It is our hope that this course will be introductory, as well as experimental in leading to the development of further module forms of classes in the Biblical languages of Greek and Hebrew. We will certainly keep you abreast of its development and future classes and how they are progressing as we experiment with this method of teaching the Biblical languages.

New Seal (L), which represents both Heritage Baptist Church and Theological Seminary, reflecting the importance of the Scripture through which is revealed both the cross of Christ and the church of God. It gives dates of establishment: HBC in 1992 and HBTS in 2009 and Scripture reference respectively.  HBC: Psalm 119:11, Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart. HBTS: Deuteronomy 29:29, The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Toepke Hall is presently undergoing remodeling and repairs. This building and 20 acres was willed to the church by a former member of the church, Mrs. Svea "Tillie" Toepke , who died at the age of 97 and who served the Lord faithfully. It is our desire to use this property for the Lord's work. We are hoping to use the house as a place to house visiting seminary module instructors and students, as well as other guests to the church.  This ministry is hoped to be an encouragement and an aid to the servants of God.

This week work was concentrated on floors, walls and electrical wiring.

Seminary News:  January 24, 2010

Dean-Advisory for HBTS: We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Thomas M. Strouse of the Bible Baptist Theological Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut has accepted an advisory position to become the Dean-Advisory of the Heritage Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Strouse is also the pastor of Bible Baptist Church in Cromwell, Connecticut, a N.T. Baptist church that he is planting for the Lord. As well as being Dean of BBTS in Cromwell he has two other seminary ministries he oversees: BBTS Europe and BBTS Philippines. Dr. Strouse has also held the position of Dean in several seminaries, until recently at Emmanuel Baptist Theological Seminary in Newington Connecticut. And before that he was Dean at Tabernacle Baptist Theological Seminary in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Dr. Strouse holds a B.S. from Purdue University, an M.Div from Maranatha Baptist Seminary, a Ph.D from Bob Jones University and a Th.D from Emmanuel Baptist Theological Seminary, and several Doctor of Divinity degrees. He is a prolific writer, having authored numerous books. Believing that the laying of a foundation is extremely important when building, we at HBTS consider ourselves privileged to have Dr. Strouse's biblical knowledge, understanding, and academic scholarship, giving oversight and guidance as we build our seminary and seminarians for the work of Christ.

Toepke Hall (picture at top on right), is presently undergoing remodeling and repairs. This ministry is hoped to be an encouragement and an aid to the men of God. The remodeling work on Toepke Hall continued this week ending with a workday on Saturday. We can honestly say progress has been made this past week with the plumbing now going back in, walls going back up, refurbishing of kitchen walls and ceiling coming along, and foyer and hallway work continuing on schedule
(the hallway that has been closed off for years by a closet is now open). The main prophet's chamber has been completely gutted and debris cleaned out. Remodeling of the prophet's chamber is on hold as we put our efforts into the main part of the building. We are focusing on having the main part of the house ready for the Spring module class.

Further, it has been suggested that the two-car garage at some point be converted to a classroom. This would aid in a cost effective move relating to energy, and at the same time provide a convenient and large classroom for seminary class instruction.

We had a great visit last Monday with Noel and Susan Meadowcroft from Quakertown, Pennsylvania. Noel is one of our seminary's adjunct instructors. As they walked through Toepke Hall, their suggestions were very helpful and very much appreciated. We are grateful for their help and guidance.

Please help us pray for time, labor and finances to accomplish this task by the March 8-12 module class on biblical Language Tools by Dr. Thomas Strouse.
