What Happened

                      By Caswell A Reeves

First, if you honestly got saved, then of a necessity four things you must have been made aware of:

1) You had to recognize and admit you are a sinner.
Romans 3:23

2) You had to know that because of your sin, you deserve to die and to go to hell.

Romans 6:23; Revelation 21:8

3) You had to see Jesus Christ as your only answer or hope for deliverance from your just desert of sin. John 14:6

4) You had to trust Jesus Christ to save you by believing he is raised from the dead, confessing in genuine prayer your sinfulness and asking him to save you.Romans10: 9,10,13

Second, If you honestly got saved, then this is what happened to you:

1) You were made a child of God. John 1:12,

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”

2) You were given everlasting life. John 6:47,

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” Also see, 1 John 5:11-13

3) You were given access to God by prayer through Jesus Christ. John 16:24,

“Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.” See also, 1 John 5:14-15

4) You were given the Holy Spirit to dwell within you and with you. 1 Corinthians 3:16,

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” He is given to you to comfort, help, guide and teach you in the ways of Jesus Christ. John 15:26; John 16:13-14 “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:... He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.” Therefore, because of the indwelling and help of the Holy Spirit you are to be careful not to defile yourself with sinful and contrary behavior to the teachings of Christ, 1 Corinthians 3:17, “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.”

5) You were given power in Jesus Christ to live a successful Christian life.

Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

6) You were made a new creature. 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”  You will find yourself with new desires, new ideas, and a new lifestyle. This change will bring about a new conflict between old ways and new ways, which you will see and realize.

7) You were made fit before God, who washed you – made you to be clean from sin: who sanctified you – made you to be holy or pure before Him: who justified you – made you to be righteous, set free from sin. 1 Corinthians 6:11, “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”
