Forever Saved

By Caswell A. Reeves
FOREVER SAVED:  that’s right, once you’re saved, you are always saved.  You can never lose your salvation in Christ.  It is what God’s Word says and that is Truth. (John 17:17).  Also, God is not a liar. (Titus 1:2).

Just look at John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish. but have
EVERLASTING LIFE."  How long is "Everlasting?"  Is it not "Forever?" Jesus said, "that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have Eternal Life." John 3:15.  How long is "Eternal?"  Is it not "Forever?"

Now, sometimes people have the false notion that, if you can’t lose your salvation, well, then you are free to live like the devil or any other way you decide to live.
NOT SO!  Getting saved does not give you license to sin, but just the opposite.  Liberty in Christ also brings with it responsibility.  Notice:  "But take heed [be careful not to sin] lest by any means this liberty of yours [your freedom from sin’s penalty] become a stumblingblock [offensive] to them that are weak [who may not understand]." 1 Corinthians 8:9.  Also, "For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty [freedom from sin’s penalty]; only use not liberty [your freedom in salvation] for an occasion to the flesh [to follow sinful desires], but by love serve one another." Galatians 5:13.

When a person gets
SAVED through Jesus Christ, God makes him a "...new creature:  old things are passed away;" 2 Corinthians 5:17.  This means a true Christian doesn't want to live sinfully.  But rather desires to follow his new calling to live a clean and holy life. (1 Thessalonians 4:7).  Does this mean a saved person is never going to sin?  NO!  But it does mean he won’t want to sin, and will try very hard not to sin.

A very important Bible Truth that every born again Christian should understand is found in 2 Corinthians 5:21, "For he [God] hath made him [Jesus] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him [Jesus]."  Also in 2 Peter 2:24, "Who his own self [Jesus] bare our sins in his own body on the tree [cross], that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness:  by whose stripes ye were healed [Saved]."  This wonderful truth is, that we are saved because of Jesus Christ’s merit and not ours.  We are going to Heaven because of Christ’s goodness.  We have no goodness which merits Heaven. (Romans 3:10-12; Ephesians 2:8-9).  What does this mean?  It means, you were not saved because of your merit, but because of Christ’s merit, and since Christ can not lose his merit, then you can not lose your Salvation, which rests in the finished work of Christ.

One of the most assuring passages of scripture on this subject,
FOREVER SAVED. is found in John 10:27-29:
"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:  And I give unto them ETERNAL LIFE; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.  My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck then out of my Father’s hand."

In Psalm 37:21, we read:  "Though he [a saved person] fall, he shall not be utterly cast down:  for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand."

Now, this is blessed assurance.  Think of it, because you are
SAVED, you are in the hand of the Lord, eternally, and no man is able to pluck you out.  This means, even YOU, when you fall, are unable to pluck yourself out of the Lord’s hand or care!  Believe it, you are FOREVER SAVED.  Rejoice in it, you can not lose your Salvation.
