“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through

Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Rom.6:23)

“Let not sin therefore reign (pres act imp) in your mortal body, that ye

should obey it in the lusts thereof.” (Rom.6:12)

In (Rom.6:23) Two reasons are given for why we should not let sin rule in

our mortal bodies.

I. THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH THROUGH ADAM (Rm.5:12, 5:19)

An earned death that is spiritual separation from God

Separated from holiness immediately (Gn.2:25, 3:7, 10)

An earned death that is physical separation from God

Separated from the presence of God in the Garden (Gn 3:8, 24)

Separated from life in physical death (Gn.2:17, Gn.5:5)

An earned death that is eternal separation from God

Separated from God in Hell (Lk.16:19ff)

Separated from God forever the Lake of Fire (Rv.21:8)

II. THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS

A gift that gives a present eternal life with Jesus Christs

In mind (Phil.2:5)

In walk (Gal.5:25, Eph.4:1, Col.1:10, 2:6)

A gift that gives a future eternal life with Jesus Christ

In the Millennium (Rv.5:10, 20:6)

In the eternal ever after (Rv.22:5)

Noting these two reasons: 1) the wages of sin, and 2) the gift of God,

let us live for the Lord glorifying and pleasing Him by not letting sin

reign in our lives.
