1 Corinthians 15:57: "But thanks be to God, which giveth us

the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 58: "Therefore, my

beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always

abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that

your labour is not in vain in the Lord."

The ultimate victory that believers have in Christ is the promise

of the resurrection. That is, that this same physical body, which

we live and walk in today, will one day be resurrected as was

the Lord Jesus Christ’s own body. Truly it is the fulfilling of

the promise of eternal life to those who receive Christ Jesus as

their Savior.

As the Apostle Paul writes to the church at Corinth, sharing the

truth of the resurrection, he shares with them that it is

“therefore” the basis for the church members service or the

“work of the Lord.” Paul uses three descriptive words to tell the

church members how they were to be accomplishing the work

of the Lord. First is the word, “stedfast,” which has the idea of

being settled or positioned firmly as a ship’s anchor may be

firmly planted on the ocean floor. In other words, church

members are to serve the Lord with convictions that are settled

or stedfast in what they believe. Secondly, Paul uses the word

“unmoveable,” this word means “stuck” and carries the idea of

immoveable. This again speaks of church members serving the

Lord in a stalwart manner, not wavering. The third descriptive

word he uses is “abounding,” reflecting an abounding manner

and character of service for the Lord’s work. Serving the Lord

is just not a Sunday activity, but a lifetime of daily abounding

service. The Apostle further shares that this personal labor is

not in “vain”. In other words, it is exceedingly rewarding.

Are you laboring in the vineyard of the Lord in a right manner?
